CLEVELAND Despite drizzling rain and lake-chilled winds, football fans crowded the sidewalks and bars of downtown Cleveland on Thursday.
The national spotlight made a rare pivot to Northeast Ohio this week as Cleveland hosts the 2021 NFL Draft. The streets surrounding the Rock Hall, FirstEnergy Stadium and the Great Lakes Science Museum were choked with people sporting brightly colored jerseys, though some were bundled in coats or huddling beneath awnings and umbrellas. I ve been to six NFL drafts, said Ron Thompson, a Detroit Lions fan who lives in Delaware. Me and my buddies go every year. Cleveland is nice. I can t wait to come back for a Browns-Lions game.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Thursday is the first and biggest night of the NFL Draft, and though rain is likely, maybe Cleveland’s luck for big events will hold.
The Cavs parade in June 2016 was hot, but those skies were shining bright. The Republican National Convention that same year was also sunny and steamy, with 87 degrees as the average high temperature for the four-day period.
The NFL Draft is Cleveland’s big shining moment in the sun, one of the nation’s first marquee events since the COVID pandemic. It’s a chance for Clevelanders to celebrate the success of the Browns and show off our fair city. No night is bigger than the first picks on Thursday.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The amphitheater is built, the stage set for the NFL Draft on Thursday.
“We are primed and ready to go,” said David Gilbert, CEO of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.
Gilbert admits, however, organizers still have many details to address, including more signage, more Lakefront setup for the NFL Experience, and building the viewing areas at Playhouse Square, The Flats East Bank, and Mall C, the largest space.

Myles Garrett & Glen Infante
Cleveland, OH - Cleveland Browns All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett braved the cold on Thursday at the Cleveland Visitors Center as he revealed the latest #VoicesofCLE public art installation, in collaboration with Downtown Cleveland Alliance, Destination Cleveland and Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.
Involved from concept to completion, Garrett personally selected artist, Glen Infante, to create the “Cleveland is the Reason” mural, inspired by Cleveland icons of sports, culture, and rock ‘n’ roll. “When you think of Cleveland, we often think about these popular personalities who helped shape the culture of our city,” says Infante. “I wanted to make sure that those who found success in their respected fields were being recognized and thanked for their accomplishments.”
