10 High Tunstall photos from the day you welcomed an astronaut!

10 High Tunstall photos from the day you welcomed an astronaut!

It is 30 years ago this month since that historic mission but students in Hartlepool have their own reason to remember Helen – because she came to their school.
Back in 2015, she paid a visit to High Tunstall College of Science to help launch a STEM initiative. Helen spent loads of time with teachers and students (including some who came in from other schools) as she talked about her fascinating time in space. ....

Prince Philip was a man ahead of his time. From the early 1950s, he addressed issues that are now at the forefront of international politics, but which back then were often dismissed as off-beat and even irrelevant.
This could be frustrating. In the case of the environment, he could see what needed to be done and felt he had to bang his message into people whose heads were firmly in the sand. In 1968, more than 50 years ago, he wrote that in man’s long history he had struggled to survive in a hostile environment, but that now “the earth and the whole natural environment in which we live is on the defensive against mankind’s ruthless exploitation”. Will the festival of Brexit be okay after all?

When a festival of the United Kingdom was announced by Theresa May in 2018 you could almost hear the collective sigh of the nation. It was immediately dubbed ‘the festival of Brexit’ and, after May’s successor as prime minister reiterated his support for the event, that name remained unchallenged, if much mocked. Now that the difficulties that are attending our departure from Europe, let alone those of the past dire year, have combined to such baleful effect, a huzza little more than a year from now with a budget of £120 million must surely strike a flat note. Or can it deliver against the odds? ....
