Towards the end of 1974, a stranger arrived in the small town of Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppey.
He could often be found sitting on a favourite stool at the bar of the Napier pub, drinking Hurlimann lager and smoking French Gauloises cigarettes while flicking through the pages of the local paper.

âCharlesâ was the name he offered to new acquaintances but the mystery man with a German accent never encouraged probing questions about where he was from and why he was there.

Swiss architect Luigi Snozzi, best known for his ‘masterful use’ of exposed concrete and theoretical approach to architecture, has died, aged 88, after contracting Covid-19
Snozzi spent 35 years primarily working in the Swiss canton of Ticino, in particular with the mayor and local community in the mountain town of Monte Carasso, where he drew up a new urban plan and regulatory framework for its development.

His built work ranged from single family houses to social housing, commercial and public buildings. He also collaborated with other celebrated architects, including Paulo Mendes da Rocha in Brazil and Álvaro Siza in Portugal.
We Three Kings premiere
Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial presentation of “ … And They Lynched Him on a Tree” by William Grant Still and the world premiere of Rudy Perrault’s “We Three Kings.” I was unfamiliar with this specific work by Still as it is a choral work, but what I learned about it and how significant a work it is makes me want to hear it again and again! I really wish it were performed more regularly.
On the same program was a work by my UMD colleague Jean Perrault. This work is a premiere for the memorial event, the use of extremes and dissonance really captures for me the pain and discord. Thankful music could connect the past and present.
