Gaston County Star Students, Teachers announced Sponsored by The Gaston Gazette each year, the school district selects an exceptional student from each high school as the school’s Star Student. Each student then named their respective Star Teacher, who had the greatest influence on the student during their Gaston County Schools education, and wrote an essay about how the teacher motivated and inspired them. Each student honoree will receive a framed Star Student certificate and a Star Student lapel pin, and each teacher honoree receives an engraved Star Teacher trophy from The Gazette. The students and teachers are recognized during a ceremony and reception at The Schiele Museum in Gastonia, but the pandemic forced the cancellation of the in-person event in 2020 and 2021. ....

Nelson announced plans Sunday for a record-setting 20 locations for new temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 11 of them outside the United States crowning an unforgettably international end to the faith’s 191st Annual General Conference. A day after leaders called for the church to become the inclusive inn of Jesus Christ, a unique Easter morning session featured another first nine speakers from nine different countries. In all, talks, prayers and music provided for the session came from a total of 13 countries Australia, Brazil, Fiji, Hong Kong (China), Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Philippines, Portugal, South Korea, the United States, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. ....
