The site was officially opened on Tuesday morning, with locals steadily coming in to get the jab. A total of 45 people got vaccinated on the first day. Another vaccine site is stationed at Welwitschia Hospital. Pastor Mark Beukes encouraged the public to get vaccinated against Covid-19. “We are not forcing you, but we are pleading with you to get vaccinated in order for us, our town, region and country to be healed, covered and protected against Covid-19. We have lost too many lives already. It’s now time, with the grace and help of God, to fight against Covid-19.” ....

PHOTO: Nampa-AFP JEMIMA BEUKES WINDHOEK Government has expressed serious concern with the perpetual delays of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine delivery, which has now put the vaccination process in jeopardy. Namibia has resumed its vaccination campaign with 250 000 doses of the Chinese-produced Sinopharm after an abrupt halt two weeks ago as a result of depleted stock. Additional doses of AstraZeneca – acquired through the controversial Covax facility – were due this month, while Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines procured directly are expected between this month and next. ....
OSHAKATI The health ministry has ordered its staff members in the north to show up for work even if they are infected with Covid-19, as long as they are not severely ill. In a letter written at the beginning of this month titled ‘procedure to follow when staff is a Covid-19 suspect or positive’, Oshakati hospital acting medical superintendent Dr Asumani Kibandwa said while he is aware that Namibia is dealing with its most devastating and lethal wave of Covid-19, they have noted with concern some colleagues taking chances and using Covid-19 as an excuse not to report for duty. ....
