City Council Accepts Donation Of 30 Undeveloped Acres For Future Southeast Tulsa Park

The City of Tulsa is now the proud owner of 30 undeveloped acres near 71st Street and U.S. 75, land that will eventually be combined with 27 adjacent, city-owned acres for a new park.
City Chief of Culture and Recreation and Parks Director Anna America started working toward a new park there when she was the District 7 city councilor from 2014 to 2018. She said there isn t enough access to parks and green space in the densely developed area.
There aren t nearly as many parks, and in particular in that area, we ve got a lot of apartments, thousands of people living in apartments within a 1- or 2-mile radius of that area that aren t served by parks, America said. So this is going to be a great asset . it s needed and will really well serve that part of town and I m sure will end up being a regional park as well. ....

Our guest on ST is Anna America, the Chief of Culture and Recreation & Parks Director for the City of Tulsa. The Tulsa Parks Department recently presented findings from a series of public-opinion surveys it s conducted over the past several months regarding its master plan. The consulting firm known as GreenPlay was employed in the execution of these surveys, as America tells us. She adds that more than half of those surveyed said that they d probably or definitely support various potential funding sources for increasing the Parks Department s budget. Moreover, respondents indicated that the facilities most important to them were trails and pathways, neighborhood parks, and playgrounds. ....

Tulsa Parks Department To Discuss Results of Master Plan Survey At Public Meeting
The Tulsa Parks Department will hold a public meeting Thursday night to discuss the results from its recent master plan survey.
The Department has about $30 million tax dollars to spend over the next six years. The information they received from the survey will help them develop a 10-year master plan to improve city parks and park programs.
We spoke with the Tulsa Parks Director Anna America ahead of the meeting and she said people want to see more walking trails. She admits that was not on the department s radar, but they hope to prioritize trails in the future. ....
