Classical Academy honors seniors Several Classical Academy seniors recently received scholarships from the North County Education Foundation Character Scholarship program. The foundation promotes and supports students who attend The Classical Academies. This was the third year for the scholarships, and this year’s theme was Impact. One finalist was chosen from each high school site after submitting essays and undergoing formal interviews with a panel of judges. Winners were Classical Academy High School seniors Samantha Friedrich and Kyle Jacob, and Coastal Academy High senior Anastasia Tolentino. The winners will each receive a $2,000 scholarship. Their club’s mission is to encourage members to become future engineers and STEM leaders and to be positive female role models by inspiring younger girls. They also use their club as a way to support each other for their robotics team, Team Spyder. Student entrepreneurs in middle school, high school and university/community colleges were selected to pitch their creative concepts over Zoom and answer questions from judges. Three students from Susan Woods’ Financial Literacy class reached the finals, with junior Nicholas Rabjohn taking first place for his pitch of Team Forum. This intuitive app for youth and high school athletes would help players and coaches communicate, allow players to analyze game film and give athletes the opportunity to train efficiently in their off seasons. Senior Jenna Ferayorni finished fourth with her pitch for The Garden Doggy, an automatic vacuum for indoors or outside that would clean up any pet messes.
