Matt Dunstone and the rest of Team Saskatchewan are set to open the 2021 Brier in Calgary.
Saskatchewan will open pool play against Nunavut Friday night at 7:30 p.m..
Dunstone was on the SportsCage Wednesday afternoon, and said they’ve spent the last while training at the curling club in Wadena, where they were welcomed with open arms.
“Dustin Mikush reached out to me,” Dunstone said. “He lives out in Wadena and said ‘hey Matty, our club is still open and we might be able to get you guys throwing at some capacity if you’re interested,’ at that moment the light bulb kind of went on and I reached out to the boys and we figured out the logistics of it all,” Dunstone said. ....

Team Saskatchewan has made their way to Calgary and have entered the Curling Canada bubble as the 2021 Brier is just days away.
Team Dunstone arrived on Tuesday in the bubble and are currently quarantining. Round one of tests have also come back, and fortunately they are negative.
Prior to making their way to the bubble, Team Dunstone had to do a 14-day quarantine, and that stretch may have given the group and edge heading into the Brier. Thanks to some help from Dustin Mikush and Scott Comfort in Wadena, Team Dunstone was able to practice while waiting out their quarantine. ....

Team Dunstone takes unique measures to prep for 2021 Brier

REGINA
Curling, much like other parts of life, has been turned upside-down by COVID-19. The challenge was no match for Saskatchewan’s Team Dunstone, who met the new requirements head-on and wasted little time getting down to work.
“At this point in the season we’ve usually got 60 to 70 games under our belt and this year we have 10 or 11,” Team Saskatchewan’s Braeden Moskowy explained.
When the foursome from Regina found out they’d be representing Saskatchewan at the 2021 Brier – a decision made by CurlSask – they weren’t allowed to practice as a group.
“Once we got approval from the government to start practicing because we’re going to the Brier we started looking for options,” Moskowy said. ....

CALGARY - Kerri Einarson s second Canadian women s curling championship was very different from her first.
Einarson didn t throw her last stone Sunday in a 9-7 win over Ontario s Rachel Homan in Calgary, in contrast to her nail-biting last draw to beat Homan in an extra end last year in Moose Jaw, Sask.
Einarson and her teammates also celebrated Sunday in the silence in an empty arena without applause and adulation of spectators because of the COVID-19 pandemic. ....
