ATLANTA, Georgia Robert Aaron Long, the suspect in the shootings that left eight people dead at three Atlanta-area Asian spas, has been indicted on murder charges, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty for hate crimes targeting the sex and race of the victims, according to a source familiar with the criminal investigation.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed notice Tuesday that she plans to seek the death penalty and enhanced hate crimes charges against Long in the first test of the hate crime law passed by the Georgia Legislature last year, according to the source. ....

Support for prioritizing new legislation to reduce gun violence has declined from a high in 2018, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, although the share of people preferring to prioritize laws to reduce gun violence still outweighs the share saying protecting the right to own guns should be prioritized.
And there is public support for such policies. The Post-ABC poll finds 50% of Americans support enacting new laws to reduce gun violence, down from a peak of 57% after the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Just over 4 in 10, 43%, of Americans say protecting the right to own guns should be a bigger priority, up from 34% in 2018. ....
