SM launches book featuring Filipino arts

SunStar Contributed photo May 10, 2021 CLARK FREEPORT SM Supermalls, through its “My City, My SM” series, recently launched a book that celebrates the beauty, culture, traditions, and people in various cities around the Philippines. The book, titled “My City, My SM, My Art,” celebrates Philippine visual arts painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and filmmaking. It aims to bring people and art together in a roadshow featuring the works of masters, modernists, and millennials around the SM Supermalls. The book comes after “My City, My SM,” which promotes tourism; “My City, My SM, My Cuisine,” which highlights heirloom recipes from prominent families in the different regions; and “My City, My SM, My Crafts,” which showcases traditional arts and modern Philippine design.

Ateneo community calls for release of Sasah Sta Rosa

Rosa, the spokesperson of Jovenes Anakbayan, was nabbed by cops inside her house past 3 a.m., according to Anakbayan Naga City. The group accused the police of planting guns and grenades inside Sta. Rosa’s home before detaining her at the Criminal Investigation and Detention Group (CIDG) headquarters in the city. In a statement released Monday, May 2, One Big Fight for Human Rights and Democracy condemned the arrest of Sta. Rosa as well as other progressive leaders who were also arrested on Sunday. “The Atenean community calls for the Ateneo Manila University administration to vehemently condemn this blatant attack on Atenean students nationwide. We call for the administration to support the call for Sasah’s release and to provide the assistance she needs at this difficult time,” its statement read.

NTF-Elcac: Reds target 2 city universities for recruitment

January 27, 2021 THE National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac) reported that two universities in Davao City are included in the list of schools the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA NDF) has targeted for radicalization and recruitment of students to join in the communist group. In a statement, NTF-Elcac Undersecretary Lorraine Marie Badoy said the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) and the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) are among the 38 schools and universities in the country that are hotbeds for communist recruitment. Badoy reiterated the recent pronouncement of Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr.
