GROWMARK supports rural middle school students The Courier NORMAL, IL– GROWMARK is joining with the Challenger Learning Center (CLC) at Heartland Community College to help rural school districts develop science, math, engineering, and technology skills. The GROWMARK Foundation has donated $10,000 toward CLC programs for middle school students focusing on Science, Engineering, Technology, and Math (STEM) skills. CLC STEM EDventures were launched in the fall of 2020 as a way to provide an exciting and interactive STEM experience for students unable to make a conventional field trip. The EDventures create hands-on learning experiences inside and outside of the classroom. To date, the GROWMARK funding has connected over 240 students from Heyworth, Olympia, and Tri-Valley schools with CLC EDventures sessions. Students planned a “vacation to space” by calculating a path to distant planets. They also constructed a one-of-a kind rover and heard from NASA experts ....

Since the 1920s, Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills has been a hub for wildlife education and exposure to the natural world, inviting schools, families and other members of the public to explore its farm, garden and trails. When the pandemic hit, the Hidden Villa staff had to find ways to connect visitors with nature while keeping them safe. In June, Hidden Villa switched to a reservations-based system, with the hope that a phased approach would bring a return to normalcy. While other parks may face the complications of visitor limitations, the online reservation system employed by Hidden Villa aims to ensure social distancing to keep staff and visitors safe, along with the capability of doing contact tracing, if necessary. ....
Section I Section I - Partnership and Project StafF The partnership for this project includes the North Adams Public Schools, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and Williams College. All three institutions are located within 10 miles of one another in the far northwest corner of Massachusetts. The populations of Williamstown and North Adams were 7,754 and 13,708 respectively in 2010. We are about an hour away from the nearest metropolitan area (Albany, NY). The North Adams Public Schools serves 1500 students in three K-7 schools and one 8-12 high school. Fifty percent of our students are from low income backgrounds. Twenty-five percent are students with disabilities. Seventeen percent are students of color, and only about 1% are ....

All Hildene science education programs support the Next Generation Science Standards. Students in grades 2-5 will discover how colder temperatures and shorter days bring about many changes in the world around them in the âWinter Adaptations: Coping with the Coldâ program. While investigating forest life through observation and exploration, they will discover the ways plants and trees adapt to winterâs challenges and learn the remarkable survival strategies and complex language of calls of Vermontâs familiar black-capped chickadee. Weather permitting, students will also take an up-close look at the unique designs of snowï¬akes and examine the processes that form them. ....
