Addressing cyclists’ safety concerns, Santa Clara County officials at a virtual community workshop last week presented three alternative plans to improve a Foothill Expressway intersection that has been referred to as a “death zone.”
Personnel with the county’s Roads and Airports Department, who oversaw recent completion of the expressway improvement project through Los Altos, offered options for the problematic southbound intersection at Foothill and El Monte Avenue, soliciting feedback and surveying participants for their opinions on the best option.
The intersection has drawn complaints from cyclists since the county added two right-turn lanes for auto traffic as part of the improvement project. ....
