Outbound Stevenson Reopens After Multiple-Vehicle Crash Near Damen

A multiple vehicle crash closed all lanes of the outbound Stevenson Expressway near Damen Avenue for nearly an hour Wednesday, causing extensive delays and potential headaches for commuters as the evening rush hour approaches.
According to Total Traffic, the crash involved multiple vehicles and took place between Damen and Ashland just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

All outbound lanes were closed because of the crash, with lanes beginning to reopen just after 3 p.m.. Traffic was backed up all the way to Lake Shore Drive as a result of the crash, according to officials. ....

5 hurt in Stevenson Expy. crash at Damen

Two adults and three children were injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon on the Stevenson Expressway.
About 2:20 p.m., a vehicle switching lanes near Damen Avenue struck another vehicle before swerving and hitting a third, according to preliminary reports from Illinois State Police.
The first and second driver, along with three children traveling in the first vehicle, were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.
All outbound lanes were closed until about 3:10 p.m., Bufford said.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot famously warned African-American aldermen who dared to vote against her 2021 budget, “Don’t ask me for s -t for the next three years” when it comes to choosing projects for her five-year, $3.7 billion capital plan.
Ald. Jeanette Taylor (20th) was so infuriated, she said it proved Lightfoot was “no better than Daley or Rahm.”
On Monday, that mayoral threat, coming before the closest budget vote Chicago has seen since Council Wars, was all but forgotten at a feel-good press conference launching the five-year capital plan at the start of the 2021 paving season.
There was no more talk about punishing recalcitrant aldermen. Instead, a City Hall news release distributed before the press conference talks about a capital plan that relies on “data to select and prioritize investments across the full array of public assets, address the worst first, along with an emphasis on equity and safety in order to create jobs.” ....
