Helen McCormack During the years I taught students who learn differently than the “average” student; one of my goals was to teach them how to ask themselves questions as they studied. Some were simple such as “Who is the story about?” “Where does this take place?” Others were more challenging such as, “I wonder how they felt?” “I wonder what happened next?” Gradually, as students began to engage more completely in the learning process, their own “I wonder” questions would arise. I was asking some of my own “I wonder” questions recently as I pondered Christmas. I wonder what Mary was doing when she was told she would be the mother of the long-awaited Messiah. Was she sleeping, grinding grain, drawing water or washing clothes when God intervened in her life? How did the vision and message of an angel make her feel? Her humble response was that she was God’s servant and willing to accept whatever God chose for her. ....
