BC Seniors Advocate applauds lifting of restrictions at long-term care homes SHARE ON: Health Minister Adrian Dix and Advocate for Seniors, Isobel MacKenzie announce additional supports for seniors related to COVID-19. It was a huge victory for family members and their loved ones when it came to long-term care and assisted-living facilities. Today (Monday), the majority of restrictions were lifted including the limit on the number of visitors. Also, those fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear a mask during their visit, except for when they pass through common areas. The requirement to schedule visits in advance has also been eliminated. Limitations on group activities and adult day programs are also a thing of the past. ....

Dr. Bonnie Henry Today, we are reporting 572 new cases, for a total of 132,925 cases in British Columbia. There are 6,877 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and a further 124,252 people who tested positive have recovered. Due to incomplete data, the number of people under public health monitoring and self-isolation requirements has not been included in today’s report. Of the active cases, 481 individuals are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 161 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation. ....
Province’s COVID-19 case counts dropping SHARE ON: B.C.’s COVID-19 cases are trending in a better direction. The province reported 572 new cases today. That’s the fewest in over a month-and-a-half. There’s also some good news on the vaccination front with the approval of the Pfizer BioNtech vaccine for children as young as 12. Provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, says as more people become eligible and more vaccines are approved, the province will continue to update its provincewide program – including adding children in the 12 to 17 age group. Of today’s new cases, 22 were on Vancouver Island and 118 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, including the Sunshine Coast. ....

The updates, provided in a written statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, bring the province s rolling seven-day average for daily new cases to 719, continuing a downward trend that has been ongoing for weeks. Wednesday s update also brought B.C. s active caseload below 7,000 for the first time since March 29. There are currently 6,877 active cases in the province. Hospitalizations have also declined, though they remain near record highs. There are currently 481 people in hospital with COVID-19 in B.C., and 161 of those are in intensive care. ....
Second COVID-19 outbreak at Prince Rupert care home declared over SHARE ON: Acropolis Manor (Google Maps Screenshot) Northern Health says the second outbreak reported at Prince Rupert’s Acropolis Manor last month is now over. Five residents tested positive in the outbreak, the health authority says, and four have recovered. One resident who tested positive has passed away. There were no associated staff cases. 57 people eventually would become ill in the three-month-long initial outbreak earlier this year. 16 of the 33 residents who became ill died, Northern Health says, roughly 49 percent of residents who received a positive test. ....
