GRASAG Welcomes Akufo-Addo's Open University Promise | Education


 
The Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) has welcomed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akfuo-Addo’s decision to facilitate the establishment of an Open University in Ghana.
According to GRASAG “this announcement answers years of advocacy by the Graduate Students Association. ”In a statement signed by Heartwill Selasi Tamekloe, President of GRASAG, it noted that “upon a successful establishment of the University, Ghana will join the league of countries running Open Universities including India, Israel and the United Kingdom.”
“In the epoch of COVID-19, an Open University will facilitate virtual enrolment, lecture delivery, certification and will ensure affordability. Physical contacts and stress will be minimised. An Open University will contribute to increasing Ghana’s Gross Tertiary Enrolment Ratio currently which stands at 18.8%. ....

Jobs and skills project to be implemented this year – Akufo-Addo

In line with his government’s commitment to addressing the issue of youth unemployment through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), President Akufo-Addo has disclosed that his government will commence the implementation of the Ghana Jobs and Skills project this year.
This project seeks to expedite the development of competency-based training curricula on the National TVET Qualification Framework for 100 trades/professions from level one (1) (National Proficiency 1) to level five (5) (Higher National Diploma) as well as training some 25,000 beneficiaries and provide entrepreneurial support to about 50,000 individuals.
“It will also seek to implement the Ghana Labour Market Information System, and upgrade of district public employment centres and services,” Nana Akufo-Addo stated. ....

Message On The State Of The Nation By The President Of The Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, On Tuesday, 9th March 2021, At Parliament House, Accra.
Mr. Speaker,
It is always good to be back in Parliament, and to discharge the duty, in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution, of delivering to the House a Message on the State of the Nation. I am particularly delighted as this Message is the first of my 2nd term, the validity of which was unanimously upheld last week in a well-reasoned and excellent ruling by a seven-member panel of the Supreme Court, presided over by the Chief Justice, on 4th March 2021. ....
