Have your say over village's plan for future development

Alresford is set to be the first place in Tendring to have its own neighbourhood plan.
The blueprint will be fed into Tendring Council s Local Plan and once formally adopted it carries the same legal status and becomes a material consideration in the determination of planning applications.
Alresford has been inundated with new homes in recent years and there are outstanding planning permissions for more than 300 more properties.
Parish councillors say they want some development, especially of affordable homes, but that they want it restricted to within a newly defined boundary in the heart of the parish.
The latest consultation on the plan will accept comments on specific matters and background documents, including an updated Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitat Regulation Assessment as well as the impact of the recent adoption of the first part of the district s Local Plan on the neighbourhood plan ....

Wiltshire councils seek 'urgent action' on planning loophole

MORE than 30 town and parish councils - including Downton and Laverstock - have joined together to appeal for help in protecting the future of neighbourhood planning .
The councils have formed the Wiltshire Area Localism and Planning Group (WALPA), and represent more than 200,000 residents across the county.
They say urgent action is needed, with Wiltshire s town and parish councils suffering because of significant loopholes in planning legislation .
They add that carefully drafted neighbourhood plans - reflecting the views of local communities - can be overruled, unless Wiltshire Council is consistently able to maintain five years’ worth of available housing land.
At the moment, they say, Wiltshire does not have that critical five–year supply, which means that developers are challenging Neighbourhood Plans as soon as they are two years old. ....

Court ruling revives plan for 300 homes on koala habitat

In December 2020 the Planning and Environment Court ruled in favour of the developer.
This decision followed a mediation process between council and residents.
Several changes were implemented during this process meaning there will be traffic lights installed at the intersection of Coorparoo St and South Pine Road and 10.85ha (45 per cent of the site) will be rehabilitated as riparian reserve for fauna and flora.
Shortly after Ausbuild lodged its second application seeking council approval to build another 102 homes on the adjacent lot.
Lot sizes are proposed to range from 325 sqm to 727 sqm.

Town and parish councils call for urgent action to protect Neighbourhood Plans | The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald

Wiltshire’s town and parish councils are suffering because of significant loopholes in planning legislation.
These mean that carefully drafted Neighbourhood Plans can be over-ruled unless Wiltshire Council is able consistently to maintain five years’ worth of available housing land.
Currently, Wiltshire does not have that critical five–year supply, which means that aggressive developers are challenging Neighbourhood Plans as soon as they are two years old.
The town and parish councils say what was the point of communities working hard to produce Neighbourhood Plans only to find that after two short years the locally agreed policies can be over-turned. ....
