Tropical Storm Elsa is also seen to head toward Florida, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and storm surge earlier this week, The Weather Channel reported. Elsa is centered near Cuba, while it is heading to the northwest. It is affecting parts of Cuba and Jamaica with heavy rains and gusty winds, with more than five inches of rain that fallen in at least one location in Jamaica. ....
Pinellas County commissioners enacted a local state of emergency Sunday afternoon as preparations continue ahead of the expected arrival of Tropical Storm Elsa within the next couple of days. County Administrator Barry Burton said although there was still high levels of uncertainty as to the risk and threat to Pinellas, the best course of action was to âprepare for the worst and hope of the best.â According to the latest information from the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Elsa could make landfall about 65 miles north of Pinellas County, Emergency Management Director Cathie Perkins said. Still the timing of Elsaâs arrival and the intensity remain unknowns. ....

19 hours ago by WMFE Staff (WMFE) By Joe Byrnes, WMFE (Updated at 7 p.m.) The Orange County Emergency Operations Center is monitoring Tropical Storm Elsa and has its shelters and other resources on standby. EOC Assistant Manager Carlos Durden said Sunday that the main threat from high winds is west of Orange County. “The actual forecast amount for Orange County, we’re looking at possibly 40 mph sustained winds on Tuesday up until Wednesday, possible at this time,” he said. “There may be wind gusts up to 60 mph.” He urges residents to stay vigilant and follow storm updates and alerts. Durden says you should also double-check your hurricane kit, check your batteries and make sure your vehicles are fueled up. ....
