AUGUSTA Fort Western Living History Museum and National Historic Landmark invites children of all ages interested in local history and museum stewardship to register for one of its summer youth programs.
An Apprenticeship Program (ages 8-12) and Junior Interpreter Program (ages 13 and older) are available. These five one-week sessions are as follows: Week 1, June 14-June 18; week 2, June 21-June 25; week 3, July 12-July 16; week 4, July 19-July 23; and week 5, July 26-July 30.
The Apprenticeship Program will explore daily life at home in the 18th century, the varied world of work such as blacksmithing and storekeeping, the life of a French and Indian War soldier, and what children and adults did for entertainment. ....

City councilors voted Thursday to send a proposal to voters to borrow $20.5 million to build a new police station on Willow Street in a June 15 referendum.

AUGUSTA The decision of whether to build a new police station, on Willow Street at the vacant site of a former Hannaford supermarket, is now up to voters.
In their first formal vote on the proposal, city councilors unanimously decided Thursday to ask residents to approve borrowing $20.5 million to build a new police station. ....

Augusta City Council votes to pursue Willow Street site for new police station

AUGUSTA The Augusta City Council has unanimously voted to authorize negotiations with the owner and tenant of the old Willow Street Hannaford property to buy the site and use it to build a new police station.
On Thursday, councilors backed up that discussion with a 7-0 vote to authorize City Manager William Bridgeo to negotiate with the owner of the property, JOFKAM Co., according to city assessing records, and the property’s current tenant, Hannaford, which holds a lease on the vacant building for the next five years. ....
