This week, we have only one female bout on the UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen card. It features Tracy Cortez against late replacement Stephanie Egger. With only one female bout on the UFC docket, I left it to you to tell me on Twitter which other female bout you wanted me to talk about. We will get to the one in a bit, but let’s start with the UFC fight. Tracy Cortez vs. Stephanie Egger (UFC on ESPN+ 37) Cortez brings in a 7-1 record, which is more impressive when you consider that the loss was in her pro debut and she has won seven straight since then, including her most recent one in November. That fight was her UFC debut not counting her appearance on ....
There are a whole lot of big MMA events this weekend the UFC, Bellator and the next rung down with the Legacy Fighting Alliance, Cage Fury Fighting Championships and more. With that comes some interesting female bouts. I am going to touch on three of them here. We’ll start with Bellator and the bout between Veta Arteaga and Desiree Yanez on Thursday. Then, on Friday, the LFA gives us a title bout between champion Vanessa Demopoulos and Lupita Godinez. We end on Saturday with UFC’s Cortney Casey against Priscilla Cachoeira. So let’s get started. Veta Arteaga vs. Desiree Yanez (Bellator 250) ....
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje have combined for 11 post-fight bonuses over their last nine fights. That’s not a typo. They have more bonuses than fights over that span. Now, at UFC on ESPN+ 16, these two entertaining lightweights will attempt to live up to the hype. This showdown is as important to the top of the division as any non-title fight in recent history. Its importance can only be topped by its potential for unforgettable action. After suffering his first two professional losses in back-to-back outings against Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje has bounced back with a pair of first-round knockouts over James Vick and Edson Barboza. Cerrone was on a three-fight winning streak and looking better than ever after returning to the 155-pound weight class until dropping a “Fight of the Night” affair to Tony Ferguson at UFC 238. Cerrone will try to replicate the success he had the last time he fought in Canada when he s ....
It is in the spirit of a warrior to travel around gathering the best tools and knowledge to improve one’s skills. When a warrior stays in one place for too long, their spirit and drive can become stagnant. Throughout time, there have been thousands, if not millions, of warriors who were eventually beaten because they got too complacent and comfortable with their training and never put in the effort to shake things up. UFC middleweight Ian “Hurricane” Heinisch started to feel that he was getting too complacent as 2019 drew to a close. He was 1-2 on the year after dropping decisions to Derek Brunson and Omari Akhmedov. So, early in 2020, he, along with training partner and UFC veteran Nate Marquardt, made a trip out to Thailand. They eventually landed at Tiger Muay Thai & MMA. ....
At UFC on ESPN+ 40, a pair of former UFC light-heavyweight title challengers meet in the main event. It’s a fight that could likely lead to the winner earning himself another crack at the belt. Glover Teixeira is on a four-fight winning streak, which included a “Performance of the Night” in his last outing when he scored a fifth-round TKO of Anthony Smith. Thiago “Marreta” Santos had won four straight himself until he came up short at UFC 239 against Jon Jones. This fight was originally slated for the Sept. 12 fight card, but Teixeira tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The date was moved to Oct. 4, but then it was Santos whose test came back positive. This caused the fight to be rescheduled for a second time. Now, it looks like the third time’s the charm, as fans will finally see these two square off inside the Octagon. ....
