Padre Dam water district looking into tax liens for delinquent customers

The Padre Dam Municipal Water District Board of Directors, which last week reinstated late fees and water shutoffs, plans to put tax liens on 73 delinquent accounts.
The item is on the consent calendar of the board’s meeting on Wednesday.
The district, which had given customers a grace period during the pandemic, said it is owed more than $280,000.
“This is a normal practice for us and we are obligated to collect fees for services in order for us to stay in compliance with state law,” said General Manager and CEO Allen Carlisle. “We can’t have one ratepayer group subsidize another.” ....

Brush fire burns in Flinn Springs

Firefighters were able to stop the forward spread of a brush fire burning in the Flinn Springs area of East County Saturday.
The blaze, at Shanteau Drive and Flinn Springs Road, just north of Interstate 8, was reported around noon.
The fire was reported to be about 3 acres, Cal Fire said.
Crews on the ground were aided by an air tanker. ....

Alpine closing in on getting its long-awaited park

ALPINE
Two years after San Diego County spent about $1.6 million to buy nearly 100 acres of parkland in Alpine, plans are finally moving forward to build the rural community its long-awaited county park.
The 24-acre park will be located at 2480 South Grade Road off, around the corner from Tavern Road off Interstate 8. The park will be open from dawn until dusk, will be fenced and gated with two main entrances, and will have someone living on the premises.
The county says it could start building the first of three planned phases as soon as this fall, with an estimated opening sometime in late 2022. The county estimates the total cost to build the park will be about $28 million. ....
