The Western Michigan University College of Engineering and Applied Sciences held an in person celebration in addition to the virtual commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 1.
The event took place on the front lawn of Floyd Hall with photo backdrops and individual tents set up for each of the seven engineering departments.
“We had 267 graduates from the college this semester so we know some of them have already gone home,” said Steve Butt, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. “For those that are here it’s been really nice to give them an opportunity to get outside and take some pictures.”  ....

Atlanta s New Way: 60 voices on the city s past, present, and future
Sixty years, three generations, six decades that’s how long we’ve covered the city. To celebrate, we talked with 60 of you about where we’ve been, where we are, and what’s next.
The editorial team immediately loved the idea of “60 Voices” for this May issue, which marks

Needless to say, all of us Atlantans have done a lot of soul-searching over the last 12 months, whether we were holed up at home or suiting up for yet another 12-hour shift. However, as this issue went to press in March, Governor Brian Kemp just had announced that any adult over age 16 can be vaccinated. So, we may not have emerged from a year of malaise quite yet, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. ....

Western students connect with legislators to advocate for environmental policies

April 22, 2021
KALAMAZOO, Mich. From drinking water and air quality to renewable energy, environmental policy decisions impact every facet of our lives. Instead of just learning about the impacts, a group of Western Michigan University students got the opportunity to urge lawmakers to take action.
It was an experience I ve never had before, says
Mitchell Denolf, a senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, studying integrated supply management. I ve been to some town council meetings when I was younger but never had the opportunity to actually have that back-and-forth discussion with a representative myself.
