Warmer weather is expected to begin Saturday and continuing into next week, the National Weather Service in Memphis said on Thursday evening.
It s welcome news as a winter storm brought deep cold and a blanket of snow that disrupted traffic throughout much of the Memphis area efforts to clear the roads were incomplete and conditions were dangerous in many places.
Memphis Light, Gas & Water issued a boil advisory and is asking people to conserve water. Road conditions appeared poor on Thursday, and some drivers of police and fire emergency vehicles were heard on radio traffic Thursday morning calling for help after they got stuck. Update 7:00 p.m. Due to a burst pipe at the Frayser-Raleigh Senior Center, the City of Memphis will not be opening a third warming center at that location Tuesday night but instead opening one at the Lewis Senior Center in Midtown.
Before this week, the nonprofit organization JUICE Orange Mound was renovating a 3,000 square foot building in the historic neighborhood as part of its ongoing community development efforts. But on Sunday, the group’s founder Britney Thornton brought cots and sleeping mats to the empty space.

MEMPHIS, Tenn UPDATE 2/22/2021 - The City s three Warming Centers will be deactivated Monday morning, February 22.
Individuals in need of additional support will be routed to nonprofit partners. There have been a number of agencies that have worked to coordinate support for the Warming Centers over the past week.
They include: OEM, City of Memphis Parks, HCD, Shelby County Community Services, Shelby County Emergency Management, MATA, Community Alliance for the Homeless, Hospitality Hub, Room in the Inn, Constance Abbey, and the Travelodge Hotel. ....
