Apr 9, 2021 A series of virtual experiences celebrating the lives and works of underrepresented composers will be showcased at the State University at Fredonia School of Music’s second annual Robert Jordan Piano Festival during April. Named in the memory of Professor Emeritus Robert Jordan, who taught at the School of Music from 1980 to 2004, the festival will feature solo and collaborative piano music written by diverse/underrepresented composers, including women, African Americans and members of the LGTBQ community. All festival events will be virtual and free to the public, but online registration is required to receive Zoom links. Dr. Adam Luebke with the 2021 GRAMMY program State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music faculty and several alumni were among the winners of 2021 GRAMMY awards presented over the weekend. The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, prepared by the chorus’ Music Director and School of Music faculty member Dr. Adam Luebke, received the GRAMMY for Best Choral Performance for the recording of Richard Danielpour’s “The Passion of Yeshua.” Bernd Gottinger, head of Fredonia’s Sound Recording Technology program, was the engineer. Gottinger was also nominated for a GRAMMY in the category of Best Engineered Album, Classical for his work on the “The Passion of Yeshua.” ....
Mar 14, 2021 Amy Schmitt, left, who serves in the main office of the School of Music, receives the Poummit Secretarial Award certificate from Associate Provost Judith Horowitz. Amy Schmitt, an office assistant at the State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music, has received the Poummit Secretarial Award, named in honor of Janet Marks, a former secretary to the Fredonia president. It was noted that Schmitt greets everyone entering the School of Music office – a busy place that steadily attracts faculty, work study students, music students and visitors – with a smile. She’s an avid supporter of the School of Music, sharing events on Facebook and promoting attendance. Schmitt connects with students, attends these events and has become somewhat of a surrogate mom to many students. ....
