Easter coloring event kicks off Freeport For The Birds campaign

FREEPORT The Easter spirit was alive and well this past weekend during an Easter egg coloring event at the Freeport Public Library.
Conducted by staff from the Freeport Art Museum on Saturday, the coloring event gave those who attended a chance to create Easter memories and a souvenir to take home.
It s not a lot of mess and fun too, said Barry Treu, director of education and exhibitions. It s all free. We re using wooden eggs so they don t break.
Once they arrived at the library, kids and adults got to pick out an egg and choose from an assortment of craft supplies and paint to decorate their eggs. ....

Freeport, Illinois, weather: Area braces for winter storm, cold snap

FREEPORT With yet another severe winter storm, and bitterly cold temperatures and blustery winds forecast for the Freeport area this weekend, people without permanent shelter are looking for places to keep warm.
City officials and social service agency leaders are working together to help identify locations for emergency shelter. The main area of refuge for homeless individuals is the Freeport Area Church Cooperative shelter location at 514 S. Chicago Ave. FACC Director Jay Hurder said the shelter already has been busy this winter season and he expects to see the same faces this weekend.
The people out there that really need it are already here, Hurder said. ....
