Women lead AACTA documentary subjects

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts announced the nominations for best documentary on Tuesday.
AACTA members selected the feature-length documentaries from a field of 19, and five of the nominated films are about women.
Each canvases people who experience and transcend barriers to fulfil their passions and remain true to themselves.
Directed by Matthew Walker, I m Wanita follows the talented but troubled Australian honky-tonk singer Wanita Bahtiyar as she realises her dream of recording an album in Nashville while dealing with her inner demons.

School Board Wades Into Selling Belle Terre Swim Club, Or Closing It to All But District Students

The Flagler County School Board is considering selling the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club it’s owned since 1997, or closing its membership-driven club functions and restricting its use to students, whose high school teams depend on its 25-meter pool.
Those were among four options district staff presented to the school board in a workshop on Tuesday in the latest tortured discussion over what to do with a facility that has been losing money and requiring the district’s general fund to make up the difference. That’s unacceptable to some board members, who say–accurately–that general fund dollars are intended for instruction, not club subsidies. ....

Moments before the Palm Coast City Council was hijacked by disruption and agression from the audience Tuesday evening, the council had voted 3-2 to approve a $5.75 million plan to rename and expand the Palm Coast Tennis Center into a regional racquet center.
Tension built as members of the public spoke about the proposal. Most of the two-dozen odd speakers were opposed, if by a slim margin, citing costs, lack of public input and the city’s reliance on speculative projections both of future population growth and what would have to be a sharp increase in tennis and pickleball use to justify the center’s expansion. Proponents spoke of the city’s coming growth, the project’s health benefits to an aging population on one hand and an expected increase in college-age students on the other, and the value of a regional facility that could attract tournaments, exhibition events, ....
