Photo / File New Zealand stocks eked out a slight gain despite a weaker finish on Wall Street on Friday, with selling in F&P Healthcare being the highlight of the day. The S&P/NZX 50 Index ended at 12,768.84, up 37.71 points or 0.30 per cent. There were 85 gains and 47 falls among the 33.8 million shares (worth $127.6m) traded. Market leader, respiratory products maker F&P Healthcare fell by 60c or 1.7 per cent to $35.35, in sympathy with Australian-US competitor ResMed, which the market views as FPH s closest peer. ....

Outside of Fisher and Paykel s hard work, the market was in a holding pattern, awaiting the latest round of company financial results. The S&P/NZX 50 Index picked up 69.06 points or 0.55 per cent to 12,715.20 on steady volume of 34.8 million share transactions worth $170.67 million. There were 49 gainers and 76 decliners over the whole market of 185 stocks. ....
Disruption of key hospitality channels in the US dropped wine sales. NZX- listed Foley Wines says Covid-19 disrupting key sales channels and global logistics issues are to blame for a 5.8% half-year profit drop. The winemaker wholly owns Martinborough Vineyard and Te Kairanga and the Lighthouse Gin brand in Martinborough; Grove Mill and Vavasour in Marlborough; and Mt Difficulty in Central Otago and is named after its majority shareholder, American businessman and vineyard owner Bill Foley. He began building Foley Wines in 2009 with the purchases of Vavasour and Goldwater wineries. Profit for the six months to December 31 was $2.57m, down 5.8%. Revenue was down just 2% to $28.3m. ....

The S&P/NZX 50 Index was down 106.42 points or 0.86 per cent to 12,282.42 similar to the level in early November and just shy of the 10 per cent fall from the all-time in January that signals a formal technical correction. There were 44 gainers and 97 decliners over the whole market, and trading was strong with 63.55 million shares worth $202.93m changing hands. ....
