(WTVM) - A 106-year-old woman was so committed to getting the COVID-19 vaccine that she traveled across the state to get a dose. Flossie Johnson, 106, was unable to schedule an appointment in metro Atlanta so she and her daughter traveled from her Roswell home to Phoebe Sumter in Americus. “The process was very smooth and efficient. Everyone here was very nice, and the entire experience was much better than anything we have encountered in regards to getting my mother vaccinated,” said her daughter Sharon Johnson. ....

(WALB) - Phoebe Putney Health System’s top official said Tuesday that the winter surge of COVID-19 has not reached its peak yet because too many Southwest Georgians are still contracting the virus. “Based on a high number of hospital admissions over the last week, it does not appear we have yet made it through the peak of this winter COVID-19 surge,” said Scott Steiner, Phoebe Putney Health System CEO and president. “Too many southwest Georgians continue to contract the virus, be hospitalized because of the virus and die from the virus.” ....

(WALB) - Phoebe Putney Health System is seeing a decrease in hospitalized COVID-19 patients this week, the hospital systemâs CEO said. Scott Steiner, Phoebe Putney Health System CEO and president, said the hospital system, âthankfully,â is seeing the decrease. âHowever, that is more a result of significant patient discharges rather than a sharp decrease in admissions,â Steiner said. âYesterday, we admitted 11 COVID-19 patients here in Albany, which has been our daily average this month, and nearly all of those patients are coming from our communities. They are not being transferred from other health systems outside our area.â ....

(WALB) - On Tuesday, Phoebe Putney Health System will reach a milestone in its fight against COVID-19. The hospital system will surpass 10,000 vaccines administered. Through Monday, 9,326 vaccines were given across Phoebe’s vaccinations sites in Albany, Americus and Sylvester. The hospital system is expected to give an additional 1,100 vaccines on Tuesday. “We want to continually grow our capacity to put shots in arms and protect more Southwest Georgians from this virus. The work that has gone into our vaccination effort is truly incredible, and it’s running like clockwork,” said Scott Steiner, the Phoebe Putney Health System president and CEO. ....
