The State of ARCA After 1,501 Races in 68 Years Now a full-fledged NASCAR division, ARCA looks to carve its own Next-Gen foundation. Icon SportswireGetty Images From Dayton to Daytona, the ARCA Racing Series has continually evolved to fit within a racing ecosystem always much larger than itself over the past seven decades but reaching 1,500 races is effectively an inflection point. This is not the ARCA that series president Ron Drager inherited in 1996, but that sanctioning body wouldn’t have been recognizable to his grandparents, ARCA founders John and Mildred Marcum either. ARCA has always existed as a driver development platform while also serving as a de facto track day club and that spirit remains true today three years after its official acquisition by NASCAR.

Mary K. Hoisington Sluiter, 71, of Cadillac went to sleep in Jesus, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 with her family surrounding her. She lost her short battle with cancer. MHS was the second daughter born to Lawrence Pete and Irene Mae (Blackmer) Hoisington on October 17, 1949. Mary loved her family and they were her life, especially her three grandsons and their families and her one great-grandson. She was so proud of her daughter and son. Mary graduated from Cadillac High School in 1968. She achieved an associate s degree from CCHS and Ferris State College. Mary worked 42 years at Cadillac Mercy Hospital and retired at age 61. Mary retired for five years then got bored and went to work for Manton Consolidated Schools working with children and loving every minute there. She left there due to health concerns.

Frances Swetish MARQUETTE, MI – Frances Marie Swetish, age 96, of Ontonagon and most recently Mill Creek Senior Living Community, died on December 16, 2020. Fran was born in Calumet on May 27, 1924, the fourth of five children born to Frank and Angeline Cekada. She was recruited to attend Ferris State College after graduation from Calumet High School, however, her mother urged her to join her older sister, Mae to live and work in Detroit. It was there she worked as a Rosie the Riveter for the World War II effort. Also in Detroit she met the very handsome, Ed Swetish, from Dodgeville, Michigan, whom she married, August 19, 1950. They made their home in Royal Oak for five years until the UP drew them back home. They eventually settled in Ontonagon, where they built their home and raised beef cattle. Fran retired as the production scheduler for the paper mill.
