Frances Swetish
MARQUETTE, MI – Frances Marie Swetish, age 96, of Ontonagon and most recently Mill Creek Senior Living Community, died on December 16, 2020.
Fran was born in Calumet on May 27, 1924, the fourth of five children born to Frank and Angeline Cekada. She was recruited to attend Ferris State College after graduation from Calumet High School, however, her mother urged her to join her older sister, Mae to live and work in Detroit. It was there she worked as a Rosie the Riveter for the World War II effort. Also in Detroit she met the very handsome, Ed Swetish, from Dodgeville, Michigan, whom she married, August 19, 1950. They made their home in Royal Oak for five years until the UP drew them back home. They eventually settled in Ontonagon, where they built their home and raised beef cattle. Fran retired as the production scheduler for the paper mill.
