Dr. Robert W. Gehl, F. Jay Taylor Endowed Research Chair of Communication at Louisiana Tech, and colleague Sean Lawson, Associate Professor of Communication at the University of Utah, recently presented research based on their forthcoming book, Social Engineering: How Crowdmasters, Phreaks, Hackers, and Trolls Created a New Form of Manipulative Communication, to a Department of Defense-sponsored speaker series, the SMA (Strategic Multilayered Assessment) Speaker Series. Gehl and Lawson presented their concept of “masspersonal social engineering” a mixture of hacking and propaganda practices as a key way to understand recent online manipulation campaigns, including the Russian and Iranian efforts to sow chaos during the 2016 and 2020 US elections. ....

Norwich University hosts Fulbright research fellow in military diversification By NU Office of Communications January 25, 2021 NORTHFIELD, Vt. Norwich University’s Peace and War Center welcomes Dr. Grazia (Grace) Scoppio as a Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Peace and War Studies for the Spring 2021 semester. During her Norwich University residency, Scoppio, whose current research is on immigrants’ participation in the military from an international perspective, will network with students, faculty and partner organizations. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with and learn from Dr. Scoppio,” Peace and War Center Director Dr. Travis Morris said. “She brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to Norwich University. Our partnership with Fulbright Canada has been an enriching experience for Norwich over the past six years and we look forward to our collaboration with Dr. Scoppio while she is with us this spring.� ....
Jessica Shoemaker is Professor of Law at the University of Nebraska College of Law. She has been recognized both nationally and internationally for her work on adaptive change in pluralistic land-tenure systems, as well as property law’s power to shape the contours of human communities and natural environments. Her work focuses specifically on issues of racial justice and agricultural sustainability in the American countryside and on systems of Indigenous land tenure and land governance in the United States and Canada. Her most recent law-review articles, including Fee Simple Failures: Rural Landscapes and Race and Transforming Property: Reclaiming Modern Indigenous Land Tenures, have been placed in top journals, including the Michigan Law Review and the California Law Review. Her work has been reviewed twice in JOTWELL, an online journal that highlights important and notable recent legal scholarship, and she is cited widely by interdisciplinary and international scholars.
