County makes call on solar project | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Planning Board recently recommended certain vegetation and soil stipulations for a proposed solar project off Route 30 in the town of Perth. The board recently approved the largest solar project ever in the county off Bishop Road. But this project is a different smaller one, albeit also in Perth. County consultant Sean Geraghty told the planning board that property owner Adelbert Pooler is doing a 3.5 megawatt solar farm along the east side of Route 30. The project currently has a special permit application before the Perth Town Planning Board. Geraghty said Pooler has a parcel of about 27 acres the solar operation would lie on.

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Planning Board on Tuesday sent back to the town of Perth a positive recommendation on the largest solar farm project ever proposed in the county. The board didn’t see any regional issues, but attached some stipulations to the project, and otherwise forwarded it back to the Perth Town Planning Board. County planning officials recommended “mixed species” vegetation to help screen the proposed 20-megawatt solar farm by SunEast Limestone Solar’s along Bishop Road. Also, 10 to 12-foot trees with a warranty for the life of the project are recommended. The planning board also wants to see some sort of 50-foot corridor for snowmobiles that must be mapped and documented before the project can get off the ground.

BOS appoint election commissioners | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Board of Supervisors on Monday appointed the two major parties’ election commissioners to two-year terms, including a new Democratic Party commissioner. The appointments were on the recommendations of each party’s formal committees, and terms run until Dec. 31, 2022. Supervisors appointed G. Jeremiah Ryan of Gloversville as Fulton County Board of Elections’ Democratic election commissioner. He replaces John Zawadzki. The vote for Ryan was 18-1, with Republican Northampton Supervisor James Groff voting no. Long-time Republican Election Commissioner Lee Hollenbeck of Broadalbin was also reappointed. County Administrative Officer Jon Stead told the board during its online meeting that it was acting on very last-minute resolutions.

Council rejects rezoning for solar farm | News, Sports, Jobs

aonyon@leaderherald.com GLOVERSVILLE The Common Council has unanimously rejected a request by solar developers to rezone portions of the former Pine Brook Golf Club property from residential to commercial to allow construction of a community solar farm at the center of the site. The rejection will not kill the project outright as developers may still apply to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a variance. The Common Council on Tuesday finally issued a decision on the request by solar developers, Eden Renewables, to rezone from residential to commercial three subdivided parcels from the former Pine Brook Golf Club at 280 S. Main St.
