James J. Dillman


James J. Dillman, 97, Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Gettysburg, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021, at the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.
He was born March 1, 1924, in Gettysburg, the son of the late Charles and Mary Cox Dillman. His wife of 67 years, Hazel Andrew Dillman, died in 2013.
Jim was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for 95 years. He attended Gettysburg High School. Jim started his career in the grocery business with the John C. Lower Co. wholesale foods, but soon moved to Gilbert Grocery Store in Gettysburg. Gilbert’s was purchased by Ken Faust and became Kennie’s Market where Jim worked until his retirement in 1989. While at Kennie’s, Mr. Dillman was involved with most aspects of the store from unloading trucks, running registers, closing in the evening, making sure shelves were full. Following his retirement he worked part-time on the grounds crew at Gettysburg College for the next 10 years. ....

November 13, 1958 - December 27, 2020
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Joseph “Joe” Stewart Berry of East Coulee, Alberta. Joe was kind to everyone, social, structured and disciplined. He was honest, unable to sugar coating anything, and strong to his opinions but never rude. He loved spending time with his girls, pets and particularly his grandson; going on adventures including road trips, camping, taking in hockey games and hikes or even adventures on the screen. He loved reading books and watching birds at his feeders and baths which were always filled. He loved telling stories of his military times, reminiscing about the friends he’d made and places he’d been. He enjoyed a big glass of cold milk or a cold beer but always had a coffee in hand. He spent much of his time in Wayne, Alberta where he worked the last four years at the Last Chance Saloon and absolutely loved the place, his work and the people. He will be greatly misse ....

William L. “Bill” Amers, 84, of Vincennes, passed away Dec. 19, 2020, at Good Samaritan.
A graduate of Greencastle High School in 1954, he graduated from DePauw University in 1958. He was a Rector Scholar and received his master’s degree and principal certification from Indiana State University.
Bill worked 40 years in the education field, as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and principal at South Knox Middle School. He was District Principal of the Year. A member of Pi Delta Kappa, he also taught adult education at Vincennes University.
A former member of the Decker Methodist Church, he was a member of the Vincennes First United Methodist Church. At church he was a Lay Leader Speaker and served on various church committees. ....
