Reshaping Reality hopes to spread advice through virtual 'Middle Schooler in the Mirror' event – Inklings News


Reshaping Reality will soon throw their ‘Middle Schooler in the Mirror’ event for middle and high school families. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple rules and regulations being in place, the event will be held over Zoom on May 6, rather than the traditional in-person gathering.
“We talk about the challenges that kids start to face in middle school in regards to body image, eating disorders, dieting, social media, cliques, and other issues,” Reshaping Reality Co-President Kylie Race ’21 said. “We share our perspective as [students] who have gone through the same experiences, and use facts and statistics to get our point across.”  ....

Denying full experience of Culinary Arts due to nut allergies must end


Culinary Arts is a very popular class at Staples; however, some students simply are never allowed to experience such a thing due to a very unfortunate circumstance: a nut allergy. 
Culinary Arts is not a nut-free class, meaning those with nut allergies either can’t take it or it makes the overall class a hard course to take.

Denying someone the full experience of a course due to allergies, something a person has absolutely zero control over, is wrong.”
According to a study from 2019, about 6.1 million Americans have nut allergies, including many Staples students. Therefore, the district should make the course nut-free, so that everyone may enjoy the class regardless of allergies.  ....

Staples moves to 75% capacity hybrid model; elementary, middle schools open fully in-person


A 75% capacity hybrid model, in which students are divided among four cohorts with three in person at a time, will be implemented at Staples starting March 1. Under this model, hybrid learners will attend school in-person three days a week with Wednesdays remaining as remote days.
Westport’s elementary and middle schools began transitioning to full in-person learning on Jan. 28. All hybrid students at the middle schools attend school four days a week, with a remote half day on Wednesdays. Distance learning remains an option at both the elementary and middle school level.
“Balancing our public health responsibility with the needs that our students have,” Superintendent Thomas Scarice said in a Board of Education meeting on Jan. 19, “I think the benefits of a full on-site in-person schooling is so important […] that it is a time to move in that direction.”  ....
