Government oversees architects and engineers activities and can, through their respective registration boards, discipline and deregister professionals if they do not perform as required, says Infrastructure Minister Jone Usamate.
He made the comment while officiating at the Fiji Building Designers Association Workshop in Suva yesterday.
Mr Usamate said if they were deregistered, they would not be allowed to call themselves architects any longer.
He said building designers needed to have a statutory registration board that governed their behaviour through law and would need to accept that the Government could deregister them and revoke their professional status if the circumstances required it. ....

Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate says revenue collected by government through taxes and duties has declined by half, however government is still maintaining the amount of money it gives to people to sustain their lives.
He says this is due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the Fiji Building Designers Association Workshop at the Holiday Inn, Usamate says this means that there is less money available to be able to do development works that the country needs. ....

Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate is urging architects and designers to design more weather resilient infrastructure based on what the country is currently facing.
Speaking at the Fiji Building Designers Association Workshop at the Holiday Inn, Usamate says natural disasters are becoming stronger.
He adds with more adverse weather conditions now, they were forced to fix some roads more than once this year.
