KUALA LUMPUR: The government has obtained a judgment in default (JID) against Eric Tan, one of the key figures in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, for him to pay RM68mil in tax arrears. The High Court allowed the application by the government to enter a JID against Tan, whose full name is Tan Kim Loong, after he failed to make an appearance before the court. The order was issued by deputy registrar Farah Shuhada Ramli during case management here on Tuesday (May 4). The 43-year-old Tan, who is missing, is said to be the right-hand man of fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low. ....

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has ordered Eric Tan Kim Loong, who is alleged to be an associate of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low, to pay income tax of RM67,996,891.87 to the Malaysian government after failing to enter an appearance in a suit filed against him by the government through the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). Deputy Registrar Farah Shuhada Ramli issued the order during the case management today. Tan was also ordered to pay interest at the rate of five per cent per annum from the date of judgment until the date of realisation and costs of RM2,000 to the government. ....

The Malaysian government as the plaintiff filed the writ of summons via IRB on Jan 15 at the High Court here and named Tan, 43, as the defendant, over income tax arrears for the years of assessment from 2010 to 2013. According to the court’s case list, the case came up for e-Review before High Court Deputy Registrar Farah Shuhada Ramli today and case management has been set for March 16. ....

Rahman Sheikh Abdullah, 45, and his wife Raihanah Kasim, 43, who are the directors of Raihanah Cold Storage, and the company, as the first to third plaintiffs, filed the suit through Messrs J.S. Pillay and Mohd Haaziq in the High Court here on Jan 27, and named Abd Zarin Mohd Yasin, who is also known as Zaharin Mohd Yasin, 69, a blogger, as the sole defendant. ....
