HCMC closes non-essential businesses after Covid-19 surge

The HCMC administration has shut down bars, karaoke parlors, cinemas and discotheques, and banned religious events starting Tuesday.
Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong made the announcement Monday afternoon after the city’s Covid-19 community transmission cases rose to 31 in eight districts since the country s latest outbreak began Jan. 28. Twenty five of these were confirmed Monday evening.
Phong said all cultural, sports and entertainment activities, beauty salons, massage parlors, internet cafes, wedding centers, theaters, gyms and pool table services will also be suspended from noon Tuesday until further notice. ....

Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar warned to pay attention to safety
The Foreign Ministry has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar to keep a close watch on the situation in the host country, while keeping close contacts with local agencies, regularly updating on local information and staying ready to roll out measures to protect Vietnamese citizens if necessary.
The embassy has contacted the Vietnamese community in the country to update on their situation, and to remind them to maintain normal operations.
Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar are warned to avoid travelling far from the areas where they live as well as stay away from gatherings, and pay attention to protecting their own security and safety, especially during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holidays. ....

Quang Ninh imposes social distancing in Van Don, lockdown in Cai Rong
Northern Quang Ninh province has decided to put its Van Don district under social distancing and Van Don’s Cai Rong town in lockdown from 12pm on January 30 to 12pm on February 21.
Social distancing measures include maintaining a physical distance between people, wearing face masks, and performing sanitation and disinfection work in line with regulations.
The decision came after a 32-year-old woman in Cai Rong tested positive for COVID-19. She had close contact with Patient No. 1,553 – an employee at Quang Ninh’s Van Don International Airport who was confirmed infected on January 28. ....

Ho Chi Minh City to reroute traffic in downtown area for Lunar New Year celebrations

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport announced a detailed plan of rerouting traffic on several streets in District 1 ahead and during the upcoming 2021 Lunar New Year, or Tet, celebrations.
The adjustment will be effective from January 25 to February 16 for preparation of a book street and a flower street.
Accordingly, all vehicles will be banned from taking the U-turn on Nguyen Hue Street near Ton Duc Thang Street from 7:00 am January 25 through February 9.
The alternative route is: Nguyen Hue Street → Ton Duc Thang Street → Vo Van Kiet Street → the underpass below Khanh Hoi Bridge → Ton Duc Thang Street → Me Linh Roundabout → Ton Duc Thang Street → Nguyen Hue Street. ....
