حذر المبعوث الخاص إلى سوريا من بوادر تصعيد محتمل فى البلاد وتآكل الترتيبات الحالية بشأن وقف إطلاق النار، ودعا مجلس الأمن إلى الوحدة من أجل إحراز تقدم على المسار السياسى لتنفيذ القرار 2254 الصادر عن المجلس والذى يدعو إلى وقف إطلاق نار فى عموم سوربا.
وبحسب مركز إعلام الأمم المتحدة، قال جير بيدرسون المبعوث الخاص إلى سوريا - في إحاطة قدمها بشكل شخصي لأول مرة منذ 18 شهرا أمام مجلس الأمن - : لا أحتاج إلى أن أذكركم أن هناك خمسة جيوش أجنبية تتدافع داخل سوريا .
