GUJRANWALA: A notorious proclaimed offender Atif alias Atti Lahoria was killed during an alleged police encounter at Alipur Chatha on Wednesday.
The accused was involved in 13 dacoity, murder and ransom cases. The police had arrested him through the Interpol from abroad and got shifted him in Pakistan about two days before. The police claimed that a police party was carrying him to identify his accomplices last night when his accomplices allegedly opened fire at the police party. As a result, Atif sustained bullets from his own accomplices and died on the spot. ....

GUJRANWALA: The XEN irrigation was handcuffed and produced in the labour court for the contempt of court on Tuesday.
Ameer Hussain, employee of the irrigation department, had filed a petition with the Labour Court for regularisation of his services.
The court ordered the Khanki Head XEN Muhib Ullah to regulaise the employee but the XEN ignored the court order. The court again served a show cause notice to the XEN but he reportedly refused to receive it. The labour court judge ordered police to arrest the XEN and produce him before the court. The police arrested and handcuffed the XEN and produced him before the court. ....

GUJRANWALA: Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmad Ghumman has said that no one would be allowed to play with the health of the citizens and indiscriminate action should be ensured against factories, industrial units and other businesses involved in environmental pollution.
He also directed the Punjab Food Authority to adopt a solid strategy to deal with the mafia involved in the manufacture, supply and sale of substandard food items. The commissioner issued these directions while presiding over a meeting here on Saturday. GUJRANWALA: On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar, 48 special Ramazan bazaars have been established in Gujranwala division to provide cheap and quality food items to consumers during the holy month of Ramazan.
Giving details of the Ramazan Bazars, Commissioner Zulfiqar Ahmad Ghumman said sugar, pulses, vegetables, fruit and other essentials were available at discounted rates compared to the general market in Ramazan bazaars. He said 16 Ramazan Bazaars had been set up in Gujranwala district, 10 in Gujarat, 8 in Sialkot and 6 in Narowal while 4 Ramazan bazaars have been established in Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad districts each. ....
