Gov. Masari signs N286.6bn 2021 budget into law

Katsina, Dec. 23, 2020 Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Wednesday signed the state’s 2021 budget of N286.6 billion into law.
Masari, while assenting to the 2021 budget in Katsina, commended the State Assembly for its expeditious passage.
He assured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to enhance their living condition and called for their continuos support.
The governor urged the people of the state to continue to pray to the Almighty Allah to bring an end to the security challenges bedeviling the state.
Naija247news reports that the governor had on Nov. 18, presented an appropriation bill of N282.7 billion for the 2021 fiscal year, to the State House of Assembly for consideration. ....

States working with FG to end banditry, kidnapping–Fayemi

Katsina, Dec. 22, 2020 The Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Dr Kayode Fayemi, has given an assurance that states and the Federal Government were working together to end banditry, kidnapping and other criminal acts.
He made the disclosure on Tuesday in Katsina when he led three governors on a solidarity visit to Gov. Aminu Masari over the recent abduction of students of the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.
Fayemi, who is also the governor of Ekiti State, said that the governors were on top of the situation.
He said: “For us, the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), we believe that we not only have to be on top of banditry, kidnapping and criminality generally, but we also have to be on top of the causes of these problems. ....

Security operatives rescue 80 pupils of Islamic school in Katsina

Katsina, Dec. 20, 2020 A combined team of security operatives on Saturday rescued 80 abducted pupils of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, an Islamic school in Mahuta, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
This was made public in a statement issued on Sunday in Katsina by the Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, Gambo Isah.
The statement said in part: “On 19/12/2020 about 2200hrs, a distress call was received by DPO Dandume that some Islamiyya students of Hizburrahim Islamiyya, Mahuta village, Dandume, Katsina state, numbering about 80, while on their way back from Maulud occasion celebrated at Unguwan-Alkasim, Dandume to Mahuta, were accosted by bandits. ....

Katsina State Pilgrims Board calls for deposits for 2021 Hajj

Katsina, Dec. 20, 2020 The Katsina State Pilgrims Welfare Board has urged intending pilgrims for 2021 Hajj in Saudi Arabia, to register with the board by making their N500,000 deposit for the Holy Pilgrimage.
The board Executive Director, Alhaji Suleiman Nuhu-Kuki, made the announcement during a news conference on Sunday in Katsina.
“The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has urged states to commence the 2021 Hajj registration of intending pilgrims and deposit collection based on the 2020 slots.
“Final decision shall however, be based on the appropriate guidelines to be issued by the Saudi Arabian Authorities and approved Hajj slots to Nigeria in due course,” he said. ....

Katsina residents commend security agents over rescue of 80 pupils

Katsina, Dec. 20, 2020 Residents of Katsina State have commended security operatives for their timely response in rescuing 80 pupils of an Islamic school in Dandume Local Government Area of the state on Saturday night.
Naija247news reports that the pupils while on their way back from a Maulud celebration at Unguwan-Alkasim were accosted by bandits.
The bandits had already kidnapped four persons and rustled 12 cows from Danbaure village in Funtua and were trying to escape with all of them into the forest when they abducted the pupils.
The Divisional Police Officer in Dandume in company with operatives of Operation Puff Adder, Saharan Daji and vigilance groups engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel. ....
