Eugene Yeo likes to spend his free time in cold, damp underground spaces. No, not Dunedin basements, but rather the intricate cave systems that lie beneath Aotearoa. He’s also a keen photographer, shining a light on places that sometimes exist in utter blackness.

No one has seen a moa in about 800 years. Scientists say the bird has been extinct about that long. But, in 1987, members of the New Zealand Speleological Society unearthed a giant claw that belonged to the bird, and they’ve just released information about the 3,300-year-old claw again. Actor Mark Hamill told his Twitter followers that the claw looks like it belongs to a Rancor, a reptile Luke Skywalker encountered in "Return of the Jedi."
