CHARLESTON â The West Virginia Legislature is in the final stretch as Wednesday marked crossover day. It was the final day for legislation, with the exception of budget bills, to be passed out of the respective bodies. Both bodies started early, working into the afternoon to get bills to the other side before the end of the day. Bills that didnât make it through the full process will have to wait another year for consideration. According to the Legislatureâs website, the House of Delegates passed 200 bills and the Senate 187, and 78 bills have been completed by both bodies. Gov. Jim Justice has signed 36 bills into law. ....
HUNTINGTON â Universities in West Virginia have begun making COVID-19 vaccines available to their students. Marshall University health and safety officials have collaborated with the Cabell-Huntington Health Department to make free COVID-19 vaccinations available to Marshall students through clinics in Cabell County. Students have two clinic options, which started Wednesday: St. Maryâs Education Center (tents in parking lot on the east end of the center), 2853 5th Ave. in Huntington, or the COVID-19 Vaccine Center (former Sears location on the south end of the Huntington Mall) in Barboursville. No appointment is necessary, and walk-ins will be accepted at both. The St. Maryâs clinic is offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until the daily vaccine supply runs out, on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. FRANKFORT, Ky. â Kentucky lawmakers voted Tuesday to shield many diabetics from income-draining insulin prices by capping their out-of-pocket costs for the life-saving medication. The bill won final passage after the Senate backed off proposed changes. The Senate voted 36-0 to send the legislation to Gov. Andy Beshear. The Democratic governor, who refers to health care as a human right, praised the GOP-led Legislatureâs action. âCapping the cost of insulin was the right thing to do to support every Kentuckian who has had to risk their own life or be afraid of permanently damaging their health just because they could not afford insulin,â the governor said in a statement. ....
