Members of the Market Operations Division of the Cebu City Government bring people they had apprehended earlier at the Pardo Public Market to the division’s office in Unit 3 of the Carbon Public Market Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, for the recording of their details before their transfer to the Barangay Tejero gym for the assessment of their penalty. In the morning, people from the Carbon Market were also apprehended for similarly not wearing or incorrectly wearing masks. SunStar + January 24, 2021 IF THE number of new Covid-19 cases will continue to rise, Cebu City has no choice but to reopen Barangay Isolation Centers (BIC). These BICs refer to three schools namely: Zapatera Elementary School, Mabolo Elementary School and Mambaling Elementary School. None of these schools, however, meet the required international standard for isolation centers. If hospitals, which regularly undergo disinfection, are equipped with medical staff and maintain health and safety protocol, are not safe for everyone much more schools. No wonder Covid cases skyrocketed in Cebu City last year. At the height of the pandemic, DENR Secretary General Roy Cimatu, who supervised the Cebu situation, commented that putting up isolation centers within barangays contributed to the increase in the number of cases in the city. These schools are located right in the middle of the barangay, at close proximity to residents. ....
January 12, 2021 CEBU City Mayor Edgardo Labella has ordered the reopening of two barangay isolation centers (BICs) to anticipate a surge of Covid-19 cases in the city. The reactivation of the two BICs in Barangays Mambaling and Zapatera is meant to ensure that the city’s Covid-19 facilities will not be overwhelmed should more coronavirus cases crop up in the coming days, said Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Garganera said that as of Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, a total of 171 Covid-19 patients were being treated at the New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home (Noah) complex at the South Road Properties (SRP). The Noah Complex has a total bed capacity of 300. ....
