10 ex-electric coop officers, one private person acquitted of graft

The Sandiganbayan has acquitted 10 former officers of the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ZAMCELCO) and a private individual of their graft charges on the procurement of two pieces of land in 2007 for P28.7 million.
Acquitted were Cesar T. Melad, Rolando G. Gregorio, Leomyr DC Toribio, Tito B. Espiritusanto, Efigenio E. Julian Jr., Noel T. Tarrazona, Alexis T. Ortega, Santiago G. Acuna, Wilhemino P. Bazan, and Reinfredo R. Sevilla, and private individual Jovita K. Yeo from whom the lots were bought.
ZAMCELCO is a non-stock and a non-profit electric cooperative registered under the National Electrification Administration (NEA). It is the primary distributor of electricity in Zamboanga City. ....

85 electric coops score high in performance rating

Roughly 70-percent of the country’s electric cooperatives (ECs) scored ‘highest rating’ in a recent performance assessment carried out by the National Electrification Administration.
The agency announced that 85 out of the 121 ECs nationwide had been bestowed with “AAA” rating or “excellent” in their overall performance as assessed for year 2019 outcomes.
Of the 85 ECs that garnered highest rating, NEA noted that 30 power utilities were given scores of 100 points – based on the performance parameters employed in the assessment of their operations.
The electrification agency highlighted the ECs that sustained ‘excellent performance’ are those in: Region I (Ilocos Region); Region VI (Western Visayas); Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) and the CARAGA Region in Northeastern Mindanao. ....
