Wayne County police officer arrested and charged with rape, state police say

A 33-year-old police officer from Wayne County was arrested Wednesday and accused of rape, according to New York State Police.
Zackery T. Powell, of Newark, was charged with first-degree rape, third-degree rape, first-degree criminal sex act third-degree criminal sex act, police said.
The arrest stems from a November 2017 incident in the village of Newark, which happened before Powell was hired as the village of Wolcott’s officer in charge, according to police.
Powell was released under a Wayne County pre-trial supervision program, police said.
He was paid $21,010 by the village of Wolcott and $8,981 by the village of Clyde, according to See Through NY, a database of public employees’ salaries in New York State.

On Wednesday December 30, 2020, the New York State Police arrested Zackery T. Powell, age 33, of Newark, New York on a Wayne County Superior Court Warrant of Arrest regarding an Indictment on the following charges: Rape in the first degree, Criminal Sex Act in the first degree, Rape in the third degree and Criminal Sex Act in the third degree.
The arrest stems from an incident that occurred in the village of Newark in November of 2017.
Powell was arraigned in the Wayne County Court in front of County Court Judge Daniel Barrett.
Powell was released under the supervision of Wayne County Pre-trial and scheduled to return to the Wayne County Court on 01/13/2021 at 1:30 p.m.
