The commission recently completed a section prioritizing placement of public art and is seeking feedback from the community. The draft can be found on the city s website.

NORTH ADAMS â North Adams residents raised few concerns about a proposed zoning change that has stirred controversy in other municipalities. At a preliminary public hearing Wednesday night, locals had the chance to weigh in on whether the city should adopt âSmart Growthâ zones that would encourage dense residential and mixed-use development in the cityâs downtown. The Smart Growth Zoning Districts, known under the state designation 40R, would encouraged dense residential and mixed-use construction in areas that are already highly developed, such as Main Street and Eagle Street. âItâs about promoting mixed-use development in the city,â said Mayor Tom Bernard. âWeâve talked about housing production, and downtown redevelopment, and this is a tool that will help us explore ways to do that.â According to the city, 40R would permit hundreds more units to be built than the current zoning allows and could bring in more than $4 million in financial incentives from the state. ....
