want the city to enforce sd1137 and make the banks pay $1,000 per day if they are leaving these blighted for closed vacant homes to rot and cause blight in our communities. reporter: code enforcement says there are hundreds of bank- owned homes in san jose and this year the city has collected between $50,000 and $100,000 in fines but due budget cuts, the officers rely more heavily on neighbors alerting them to problems than ever before, like this home on christopher street, long vacant and not securely locked up. they plan to find the property s listing agent instead of the bank. san jose s statute is that whoever has control of the property the real estate agent has control of the property today so the real estate agent gets the citation. reporter: that s $250 a day in city coffers until the home is secure. tomorrow i expect when we come back out here if the structure is not secure that citation that they are getting today for 250 will now be $500 and i ll ma ....
