little surprise at the apparent warmth and the body language. is that something kim is used to culturally. probably not. not too manyorth korea do that. but the occasion called for it, i thought. and that s, you know, brief body language there, that is a good sign. anderson, to you. chris, here with christian amanpour and jim sciutto and ambassador yun. it was fascinating. and there was body language. obviously president trump didn t smile, at least not at the beginning. but kim jong-un did smile broadly as they were walking off and kim jong-un has had the old hug and arm tug when he was with ....
Yun. just in terms of legitimizing the korean regime, this is what kim jong-un and his fathe and his grandfather have been wishing for. is this broadcast live? i would be surprised if it is broadcast live. live events are rare. if there is a live signal, we would see it. an i haven t heard us talk about that. i was in north korea eight times last year. and every time i was president trump would tweet something about kim jong-un and it would seem in the brink of minutes we were war. president trump was talking about a phase two military option and yet here we are seeing this moment. the two shaking hands and president trump saying they are going to have a terrific relationship and frankly, i imagine they might hit it off ....
Processed, it has got to be progress. i think to get away from what we have done in the past, at least we have to have sizable deliverable. if we are too serious, kim jong-un seriousness, then we have to test it. so far i see no signs that we re seriously testing the hypothesis that he wants to denuclearize. and if we get into this action for action, little by little, it can drag on forever and in the end, we have no progress. i would like to see coming out tomorrow, from the declaration, that jean mentioned, some immediate steps that they will do, we do some security assurance, they do denuclearization. so it is fair. you got to do a little bit of each. but let s see something that shows kim jong-un is indeed serious. yeah. and ambassador yun, thank you ....
Of when, and president trump did that in his tweet saying we ll meet with you whenever you say so. in my move, that s a bad move. north korea should not be the one deciding when the meetings take place or what s discussed. this has to be coordinated between the two sides as well as other players involved. general yun brings up a good point. 18 days is not a long time. is there really going to be enough time between now and june 12th to iron out all of these issues that both countries have that they could actually pull this summit off on june 12th? is that physically possible in any way, shape, or form? well, i mean, i think we need to lower our expectations, ryan, as to what this meeting is going to achieve. i don t see any problem, and i don t think ambassador yun would either have a problem with president trump meeting with kim jong-un. this is not going to be a nuclear negotiation. ....
well, it s certainly something that north korea has said at every single exercise ever conducted by south korea and the coalition partners. so this is just another iteration of that kind of dialogue. and, brian, you know, ambassador yun is the expert in all of this, but it seems to me no matter what the dialogue is, we re talking about the difference between politics and national security issues. when you re talking about those kinds of things, one phrase always comes up in my mind if you want it bad, you re going to get it bad. we are 18 days away from the proposed date of 12 june. during that period of time, a lot of groundwork has to go into it, and truthfully that s not a lot of time to prepare for a conference of this magnitude, a summit of this magnitude. so i m just very concerned no matter which side of the aisle you re on that we have surrendered the initiative to north korea. they are now making the demands ....
