Amazon Canada and The Walrus have named Nanaimo’s Rama Altaleb and Victoria’s Stella Braun as finalists for the fourth annual Youth Short Story prize, which will be presented May 27.
The two 17-year-olds are among five writers between the ages of 13 and 17 who will compete for the award, which comes with a $5,000 prize and a mentorship lunch with editors of The Walrus. The winner will be named during a virtual event that is part of the ceremony for the 45th annual Amazon Canada First Novel Award, whose nominees were also announced Monday. ....

The finalists include the first major awards nod for Flying Books, which was recognized for its first publication, Marlowe Granados’s
