There are times when owners choose to buy two adjoining flats and, for habitual convenience, merge them into a single flat (or a duplex flat if situated on separate floors). Amalgamation of flats is common but should be done only after seeking permission from municipal authorities. In most such cases, the amalgamated flat will have a common entrance, which will allow it to be considered a single flat with a common share certificate.
An associate member has similar rights in a cooperative housing society (CHS/Society) as the original member, but there are a few exceptions, and written consent of the original member may be required for certain actions. Essentially, an associate member is a person duly admitted to membership of the Society on written recommendation of the original member to exercise their rights and duties with prior consent.
Generally, the deputy registrar of cooperative societies (DtyRCS) appoints an administrator upon receiving complaints from members of the cooperative housing society (CHS), if they find that it is a fit case to expel the present managing committee. While the DtyRCS has the power to dissolve managing committees and appoint an interim administrator, it uses such powers sparingly and only to bring erring societies and their committees to book.
